Narendra Modi. the Prime Minister of India, has awarded Harshita Arora, a young entrepreneur that developed a crypto price tracking application, the Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 award, despite the country's uncertain stand towards cryptocurrencies and their status, Cointelegraph reports on January 27th.
The Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 is an award honoring youth contributions to the fields of social service, innovation, bravery, sports, art and culture and scholastics.. The Prime Minister commented that Arora’s “passion towards science, technology and human welfare are clearly visible” in an official tweet.
The uncertainty about cryptocurrencies continues in India, despite the clarifications made last week on how it isn't illegal to own crypto assets, but is illegal to trade them, i.e. provide trading services for them and underlying assets. This award could go a long way in changing the perception of the authorities, helping them realize the potential of both cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology is wast and that the country risks missing out by distancing itself from it.
